Gatti captures gold at state wrestling tournament

Mike Gatti completed his wrestling career on Sunday afternoon at the Boardwalk Convention Hall in Atlantic City, claiming one of 14 gold medals awarded at the conclusion of the 71st Annual New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s State Wrestling Tournament.
Prior to the start of the championship round, the traditional March of Champions was led by another Watchung Hills’ senior – Carl Riccio, whose career came to an unexpected end in the final regular season match of the 2003 season. Riccio, undefeated at 29-0, suffered a career-ending injury but has remained a part of the Warriors’ wrestling program, serving as a captain of this year’ team. Riding in his wheel chair around the championship mat, Riccio drew a thunderous round of applause from the 9400 fans who stood to honor him for over two minutes.

Watchung Hills Rebecca Zeitels repeated as the Somerset County Diving Champion during 2004 Somerset County Swimming Championships contested at the Somerset Valley YMCA pool in Bridgewater on January 31. Zeitels accumulated a score of 207.45 for six dives and that is the fifth highest mark recorded in the Garden State this season.

Watchung’s Mike Rolland attended the Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp last summer at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center on the campus of Montclair State University. Rolland is a student at Watchung Hills.
High school and college students will have a unique opportunity to learn about sports broadcasting when WNBC-TV's Bruce Beck and New Jersey Nets announcer Ian Eagle conduct their 3rd annual Sports Broadcasting Camp from July 26-30, 2004 at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center on the campus of Montclair State University.
The camp allows students, male and female, 14-and-older, to learn about game preparation, writing and interviewing skills, sports talk radio, the differences between radio and television calls and on-air presentation. Lectures, field trips, visits from New York area broadcasters and assignments lead up to the calling the July 30th Newark Bears minor-league baseball game.
The camp is limited to 60 campers who are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost is $625 and more information is available about the Bruce Beck & Ian Eagle Sports Broadcasting Camp by calling (908) 233-1113 or by visiting
