Warriors win shootout |
| Seeded No. 12, Watchung Hills opened the 2002 Somerset County Boys Soccer
Tournament with a 1-0 victory over 13th-seeded North Plainfield in the first round of the tournament on Saturday
in Warren. The win raised the Warriors' overall record to 3-5-1 and advanced them into the second round where they
travel to Skillman to battle fifth-seeded Montgomery on Saturday starting at 2:00 PM. With the score still scoreless after 80 minutes of regulation play and two overtime periods, the decision went to the shootout format. The Warriors converted four-of-five penalty kicks as Eddie Lauerman, Bryan Crawford, Jim Coletti and Adam Rafaat each connected for Watchung Hills. Keeper Brian Darling, who made eight saves during the game, allowed the Canucks three penalty kicks, turning aside two others to give the "W" to the Warriors. It was the second win of the season for the Warriors over the Canucks. In a Skyland Conference matchup, Coletti and Tom Weeks scored with Derik Rosa dishing off both assists in a 2-1 victory that was preserved by nine save from Darling. In a 4-2 loss to North Hunterdon in a Skyland Conference match, Coletti and Greg Chury connected for goals with Eddie Lauerman picking up an assist. Darling turned aside seven shots on goal. |

Warriors fall to Stateliners |
| Senior midfielder Jim Coletti scored 12:20 into the second half to give Watchung Hills a 1-0 lead but the Warriors could not hold off Phillipsburg at crunch time as the Stateliners rallied with two late goals to capture a 2-1 decision on Tueaday in Phillipsburg. Senior goalie Brian Darling came up with seven saves for the Warriors who dropped to 2-3-1. |

Back-to-back wins lift Warriors to 2-2 in soccer fields |
| Watchung Hills rebounded from a pair of setbacks to record back-to-back
victories on Wednesday and Friday afternoons as the Warriors improved to 2-2 for the boys' soccer season. Watchung
Hills' went to overtime to edge North Plainfield by a score of 2-1 on Friday to reach the .500 mark. Playing on his home turf in Warren, junior forward Tom Weeks connected off an assist from senior midfielder Derik Rosa 2 minutes, 7 seconds into the first overtime to post the game-winning tally. Trailing 1-0 on a goal by North Plainfield's Victor Blanco, the Warriors finally got in the board with three minutes remaining on the game clock. Senior midfielder Jim Coletti knotted the game with Rosa picking up an assist. Goalkeeper Brian Darling turned in a strong effort between the posts as he came up with eight saves to pick up his second "W" of the campaign. On Wednesday in Warren, Darling pitched his first shutout of the season when turned aside eight shots on goal to spur the Warriors to a 1-0 triumph over Warren Hills. Senior defender Derrick Shallcross tallied the only goal of the contest with 19 minutes, 2 seconds remaining in the game when he connected off a 55-yard direct kick that landed in the box and bounced into the Blue Streaks' cage. Darling excelled in a 3-0 loss to Hillsborough on Monday when he was peppered with 21 shots on goal and came up with 18 saves. The previous Friday afternoon, the Warriors dropped a 3-0 decision to the Red Devils of Hunterdon Central in the season opener. |
