Jackie Gavornik

Gavornik named NJAC All Star

Millington's Jackie Gavornik has been honored by the New Jersey Athletic Conference, not once, but twice. The former Watchung Hills' standout was one of five players chosen as First Team Singles Players and along with her classmate Kristen Klepacki, formed the First Team All Conference No. 1 doubles tandem.
A sophomore at The College of New Jersey, Gavornik served as a tri-captain and was a perfect 6-0 in singles matches during the fall campaign.
Teamed with Klepack in doubles, the tandem also posted a 6-0 record in dual match competitions. The sophomore tandem has posted a 32-6 record since arriving on the Ewing campus in 2002.

Gavornik and Klepacki won the 2003 ITA East Regional Doubles Championship at William Smith College in which they were seeded second. They posted a 5-0 record in the tournament, recording an 8-0 win over Vassar's Kelly Graham and Katy Robinette in the first round. Followed with an 8-1 triumph against Ithaca's Megan Chapman and Melissa Walsh. In the quarterfinals, the duo defeated Union's Lauren Stellato and Jennie Werts by a score of 8-5 before rolling to an 8-5 win over the No. 4 seeds, Whitney Dolan and Heather Fuleiham of Skidmore. In the championship match, the Lions' sophomore tandem defeated top-seeded Tara Pajoohi and Joanna Toke of the University of Rochester 8-5 for the crown.
Tapped as the No. 3 seed in the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Omni Hotels National Small College Championships, Klepacki and Gavornik opened the tournament with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to fourth-seeded Carina Alberelli and Margaret Moscato from Emery University.
Gavornik posted an 18-4 playing in the No. 3 singles slot as a freshman and has moved into the No. 2 slot this season.

Graziadei completes net career with 93 wins

Watchung Hills has been a power in girls tennis during the seven years Marlene Milkosky has served as head coach. Over that period, the Warriors have posted a sparkling 123-17 record, including the 13-4 mark posted by this year’s squad.
Amanda Graziadei has finished her four-year varsity career with 93 career victories and has received all star accolades from the Skyland Conference coaches each year.
"Amanda will be missed next year," said Milkosky. "She has been so consistent throughout her career and I look for her to excel at the college level."
Watchung Hills’ career leader in victories with 105 is Jackie Gavornik who was recently named a New Jersey Athletic Conference All Star and NCAA Division III All American. Her younger sister Stacy is a junior who played third singles for the Warriors this year.
Chrissy Principe is the last of her family to play for the Warriors and she has one year remaining after occupying the second singles slot as a junior.
Senior Nina Sutjiawan and frosh Emily Schiller teamed up to form the Warriors’ top doubles tandem. Sutjiawan completed her Warriors’ career with two varsity letters. She is considering Rutgers University as her next stop while Schiller displayed the skills to be in the battle for a singles assignment next season as a sophomore.
A pair of sophomores, Alison Schwartz and Danielle Weiss, formed the second doubles duo. Junior Ali Sands filled in at singles for the Warriors on four occasions so there is plenty of talent returning to the 2004 team.
"Our junior varsity squad went 13-1 so I expect there will be some serious competition for the seven varsity slots next fall," commented Milkosky. "We have an enthusiastic and extremely supportive group of parents that help make this program a success."

Lady Warriors blank Stateliners on opening day

It's a new year on the tennis courts for the girls of the Skyland Conference but it was business as usual in Warren where the Watchung Hills' team totally dominated Phillipsburg to blank the Stateliners 5-0 on Monday to open the 2003 net campaign.
Coach Marlene Milkosky's roster traditionally posts winning records and this year does not appear to be an exception. Amanda Graziades is back at No. 1 singles for her senior season and had little more than a light workout in routing Jen Naple 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Christy Principe was equally as impressive in the second singles slot, wiping put Rachel Griffey 6-0, 6-0 to continue the Principe family tradition. At third singles, Stacy Gavornick completed a sweep of the singles without the loss of a game as she whitewashed Terry Stepien by a similar 6-0, 6-0 score.
Senior Nina Sutjiawan teamed with frosh Emily Schiller to become the Warriors' top tandem. The outcome was a 6-0, 6-1 bombardment of the Phillipsburg duo of Danielle Bey and Jen Rangle. It was the sophomore pair of Alison Schwartz and Danielle Weiss that came on strong to vanquish Allison Gavornick and Corriane Myers by a score of 6-4, 6-0 in the second singles slot. Dee and Allison Gavornick are cousins.
