| Steve Kinney and Lauren Kopecki turned in silver medal performances at the
Ridgewood Winter Games contested at the Rothman Center on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack
on Saturday. |
| Competing in a field of schools from Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex,
Monmouth, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties, the two Watchung Hills' seniors posted runnerup efforts
in the same event, the 1600-meter run. Kinney covered the metric mile in 4:41.4 as he trailed Mohamed Khadraoul
of Paterson Kennedy, the NJSIAA Meet of Champion winner in cross-country to the finish line. |
| Kopecki lost a battle in the stretch by one stride as she finished second
to Lisa Miller of West Windsor/Plainsboro - South in a time of 5:34.6. The Lady Warriors 4 X 400-meter relay team
of Adele Banks, Jen Dubois, Alex Grodeck and Caitlin Lashley picked up silver medals with a time of 4:33.0. |
| Junior Adam Cornelisse raced to a bronze medal finish in the 600-meter run,
finishing in third place with a clocking of 1:32.0. The Warriors placed third in the 1600-meter relay with a foursome
of Cornliesse, Chris Palmer, Ted Pei and Jake Crystal, posting a time of 3:44. The 3200-meter relay quartet of
Palmer, Cornliesse, Jose Rodriguez and Kinney picked up bronze medals when they were clocked in 8:52.27. |
| There are 66 student/athletes participating in the Watchung Hills winter
track & field program, 30 of whom are boys. Members of the senior class are Brandon Chen, Jake Crystal, Steve
Kinney, Kevin Liebler, Shawn Mitchell and Ted Pei. |
| The junior class is represented by Alex Chin, Adam Cornelisse, Eric Kline,
Chris Palmer, Mike Rameriz, Jose Rodriguez, Tyler Stambaugh plus Erik Straub. From the Class of 2006 are Victor
Benitez, Jeff Chen, Bobby Dahlinger, Dave Fetchko, Brian Monetti, Shamir Parmar, Adam Pogash, Glenn Poole and Nick
Profeta. There are seven freshmen out for the team including Greg Bartolomei, Jack Beckert, Estiven Benitez, Matt
Brody, Alex Growney, Anthony Guerriero and Travis Poole. |
| Among the 37 girls are 34 underclass candidates. The members of the Class
of 2004 include the trio of Jennifer Dubois, Lauren Kopecki and Natalie Stabenow. From the junior class are Jessica
Bacilus, Lauren Chin, Alex Grodeck, Amy Helbig, Teresa Mascia and Kristen Piatakowski. |
| The sophomore class has 13 participants including Adele Banks, Jaci Bilancia,
Amanda Franko, Sarah Gillis, Deena Giusti, Liz Gilbert, Caitlin Lashley, Krystina Laucik, Shelia Mellen, Melissa
Moy, Jerri Pasternak, Monica Rodriguez along with Rachel Stein. |
| There are also 13 members from the Class of 2007 that includes the Beckert
twie, Kaitlin and Kristen, along with Brooke Cassidy, Traci Finkel, Kaitlin Fischer, Emily Gatti, Danielle Gonnella,
Jessica Guerriero, Nina Horowitz, Ryan Olexson, Sarah O'Meara, Jo Paik plus Lea Umansky. |
